A beautiful sunset – nude photography tutorial
Ok, this isn’t the best behind the scenes shot ever taken for a nude photography tutorial. It does however show everything it has to show for training purposes. That being a glimpse behind the scenes of exactly how I set up for the “A beautiful sunset” photo series. It really was as simple as getting a reflector holder in there and trying to reflect the setting sun back at her. We never actually had any direct sun to bounce back off the reflector in this series so it was a matter of the reflector holder just trying to move around and twist the reflector as best they could to try to maximise the illumination on the model’s face/body.
We were lucky in so far as the water out there was CRYSTAL clear, although it’s hours off the coast of Cambodia, not the most populated place on the planet and I’ve never seen the water anything but totally clear there. We were also however blessed with some soft, lovely sunset light and some beautiful hues to the clouds and water.
The lack of light to work with however meant that the model’s skin never got quite as bright as I wanted and so it was up to photoshop to save the day (as is so often the case in my work). The way I edited up the final shots here was to expose each image as two separate layers within the same image, one exposed for the background and one for the skin. I then used masking to combine the layers, the healing brush to tidy up and a little bit of curves/selective colour tweaking etc
