Another old shoot this one is from a few years ago, it was unfortunately one of only a couple days that I got to work with the beautiful and lively Kaye. I can’t remember who contacted who first but Kaye traveled up to Brisbane from Sydney for a few days to get this work done together. Lighting here is a pretty stock standard flat frontal lighting, a couple softboxes on each side of and in front of Kaye and then a couple firing into the backdrop to really blow it out well. The studio used for this set was provided by Barry Cheeseman of Mystique of Images, thanks Barry!

This is an old shoot, the oldest shoot I’ve uploaded to this site so far, it was shot back in 2006 and if memory serves I believe it was the very first nude shoot I did at the Brisbane (Mt Cootha) botanic gardens. I haven’t shot there in a while but back when I used to what I would do was a tad cheeky. I’d turn up at or just before sunrise with a model and jump the fence to get in while the light was good and before the staff would get there. Officially the gardens opened at 9am but there were normally some maintenance crew wandering around trimming trees, cleaning up paths, all that horticultural sort of stuff that has to go on to keep a large public gardens in shape. I would generally avoid them and find spots to shoot at out of sight and never actually had a problem with anyone questioning us at any time while shooting there. I’ve found on the whole that if you want to shoot in a place you’re not really supposed to you can often get away with it just by turning up early and, well, as nike would say – just do it!

To be totally honest I don’t remember much about Natalie, it was many years ago that I worked with her. I do remember that she was great to work with, adventurous and uninhibited. She also contacted me, the shots you see here were part of a present she was putting together for her boyfriend, but she gave me permission to use them for whatever I wanted to as well. A good sport!

Garden of Eden – tropical nude photos

The lighting is a mixture of natural light and bounced flash. The room where the images were shot had a pair of glass paneled doors at one end, so I decided to use the natural light from them as a back light, and use a linen curtain as a diffuser. Natural light can be a problem here in the UK in December, when the shoot took place, and this particular day was quite grey and cloudy with a few intervals of soft winter sun. I added a Nikon SB800 speedlight to camera left, bounced off a wall to add some fill lighting. To get the background to bun out a little I set the camera to +3 EV, and then adjusted the SB800 to balance between the two. I was lucky that the ambient light from outside remained pretty consistent, so I didn’t have to chase it with the speedlight too much to keep the balance.

I don’t know what it is about swirling sheer material nudes but I just can’t get enough of them. I really like to capture movement whenever I can in my photography and somehow a beautiful swirl of material around a gorgeous fashion model nude just really does it for me. This was shot in my normal ad hoc studio arrangement set up in a dance hall. As in most of my shoots there was no makeup artist for this set, Karelle did the makeup herself and the rest was taken care of in photoshop.

It’s a pity the Vietnamese are such a conservative people, because they are also extraordinarily beautiful.  I’ve only shot one Vietnamese nude model myself but she was one of the prettiest girls I’ve had the fortune to work with and after having visited the country & also spending months at a time in it’s next door neighbor (Cambodia) I can confirm that she isn’t alone in that beauty.  Vietnamese girls are gorgeous – it’s as simple as that.

However they are very shy, the one girl I have shot personally grew up in Australia and is really more of a westerner in mindset than a traditional Asian.  As such it came as a great surprise to me to find out that popular Vietnamese supermodel Ngoc Quyen recently featured in some nude photos which she then publicly promoted with an environmental message underneath.

Personally I’m a big fan of environmental charities, I’ve been a member of Greenpeace for around a decade.  I’m also a big fan of gorgeous women naked & of Asian women in general, so naturally this is a big hit for me.  Many others (especially inside of Vietnam) weren’t so positive though.  She has received much criticism from the conservative Vietnamese media, much of it around the perception that she didn’t really do it for the environment, she did it to get famous.  Personally I don’t really care why she did it, either way it shows a bravery and acceptance of the body in it’s natural state that far too few Asians (and specifically Vietnamese) tend to have.  And if it does help spread a bit of an environmental message at the same time then that’s only an added bonus.

Anyways I’ve managed to assemble the set of images in the highest original quality I could find for my readers here (they are plastered all over the web, but many are in very small format, censored or have whacky PS effects applied to them) so take a look yourself and make up your own mind:

Following from the purple stocking series, this set of Annie continues the hotel shoot on the couch with some soft, natural nude portraits using only the beautiful window light coming from the left of frame.
In contrast to the previous set, Annie is now showing a more contemplative, but still inviting, side to her beauty which really complements the soft window lighting and black and white treatment of the images.
This time I chose to shoot along the length of the couch and window which gives a little more side lighting to Annie which is evident in the subtle shadowing on Annie’s body. Again, these images were all shot using a Nikon D3 and an AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8.

My favorite thing is for my work to be out there for human consumption. I do this for me but I also do it for you. I’m one of the good guys.

I was born and still reside in the Louisville, KY area where I practice my craft. Though I do step outdoors from time to time, I am primarily a studio photographer. I like having complete control over my light and environment and the more connected relationship I can build with my models in a closed space where outside interruptions are not a factor. I’m a minimalist at heart and prefer to keep my backgrounds as simple as possible while using lighting and elements that bring a lot of contrast and drama to the subject. I like my images to have strong positive/negative relationships, bright highlights and deep shadows and for them to say as much as they can with as little as possible. It’s a pursuit I thoroughly enjoy and if there is one thing that I am honestly passionate about, it’s creating stunning images.

Figure study with fabric – artistic nude photos

I have been a profesional photographer for may years. Although I have worked from my own studios in the past I now prefer to work away from studio envoiments and most of my work is now shot on location.
Using Nikon cameras combined with speedlight flash together with the new pocket wizard radio triggers has open a whole new world for me. I can now shoot on location using 3 or 4 speedlights to add fill flash to create natural looking images,
Natual light will always be my favoured choice, but in the UK we are not always blessed with ideal conditions, so the help of these handy portable flash units just makes my life that easier.
Over the years I have helped many new models with their portfolios, including fashion, glamour and nude photography.
